School Sucks

IT WAS JASMINE'S first day at Arokya's high school after the move from her hometown. Before moving, she had been in the first year of upper secondary school. When Jasmine and her mother, Evon, arrived in Arokya, the school was already in its spring term, so Jasmine had to wait for the next term before enrolling. While waiting for the seasons to pass, Jasmine seldom roamed the neighborhood to meet the resident of Arokya and instead filled her days with helping her mother start a restaurant underneath their bedroom, tinker with tools in the basements, and most frequently hunting and foraging in the forest that enclosed the village.

Rain drizzled that morning as Jasmine left for school. Evon walked beside her, holding an umbrella over them both. Jasmine held her mother's arm tightly as they walked to the gate. While passing other students, Jasmine saw their eyes pulled towards her. A tinge of embarrassment enveloping her as she feels their piercing eyes following them from behind. Beside the fact that she was a new face, she looked too grown-up to be accompanied by her parent to school.
